Will and Faith

Dogs have been living with people for thousands of years. Over time, they have helped to protect us, helped to keep our farm animals safe, and helped hunt for much needed food and given us companionship. At times they have even pulled heavy loads for us. Today most of us have contact with pet dogs,but not "working breeds," as all dogs once were.

Eric Johnson and his Border Collies started their herding experience at Farm Museums, working with all sorts of farm animals -- sheep, cattle, pigs and poultry. Together they have years of experience offering herding demonstrations for groups of people. This includes the Museum events, Farm events and School events.

Eric's Border Collies have competed successfully in sheep dog trials in the Northeast. Both dogs have placed very high in their "classes." Eric's sons, Sam and Caleb, are learning how to work with the dogs and are gaining in the finer points of herding.

In 2002 Eric began using his working dog skills to offer a service to property owners with wild goose problems. Wild goose control services with Border Collies have existed in other areas, like metropolitan NYC, for a decade. Now Eric's company, Wild Goose Chase, offers effective solutions to keep residential, business and public properties free of wild geese throughout the Berkshires, NW Connecticut, and the NY Capital Region.

In Eric's Demonstration Program, Faith, Rhos, and Tarr herd ducks to demonstrate their skills. Therefore this program works well both outdoors and in gyms, or arena type settings, and is offered to all age groups.
